About St Madoc's

About Saint Madoc

Saint Madoc (Madog, Maedoc or Aidan) was born in Ireland circa 558 AD, leaving to study under St David in Wales, becoming a loyal disciple. Many miracles are attributed to St Madoc, but he is known to have returned to Ireland and founded St Aidan's Monastery at Ferns.

About Saint Madoc's Church

St Madoc is believed to have founded a church on this site around 583 AD, selecting a site in the small valley as refuge from pirates and the weather (still a bonus in the 21st Century). The medieval south wall and font remain, though it was restored around 1883.
